Ganesh Chaturthi 2026: NSE, BSE Announce Trading Holiday On September 14

The Indian stock markets will remain closed on Monday, September 14, on account of Ganesh Chaturthi.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) have declared a full trading holiday, keeping equity and equity derivatives markets shut for the day.

Investors will not be able to trade equities on either exchange during the regular session. Equity derivatives trading will remain suspended.

The commodity market will follow a separate schedule. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain closed during its morning session from 9 AM to 5 PM and resume trading at 5 PM.

The evening session will continue until 11:30 PM, or up to 11:55 PM, depending on the contract.

A settlement holiday, meanwhile, does not necessarily stop trading. It refers to the suspension of clearing and settlement for eligible transactions for the day.

Indian benchmark indices ended the previous week with notable losses amid a sharp rise in crude oil prices and concerns over global interest rates.

The Nifty declined 2.09 per cent during the week and fell 0.34 per cent in the final session to close at 23,398.

The Sensex dropped 120 points, or 0.16 per cent, on the last trading day to settle at 74,781. It declined 2.27 per cent over the week.

Analysts blamed weak sentiment on global macroeconomic concerns, with firmer US inflation and rising Treasury yields raising rate-hike worries. Nifty Realty fell 6.54%, while Nifty IT dropped 5.78%.

Indian equities saw sharp volatility after the new closing auction session, particularly on derivatives expiry days.
