Petrol and diesel prices are at their highest in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Kerala, making them the costliest in the country. Conversely, fuel prices are more affordable in smaller states and union territories such as Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Delhi. According to data from the oil industry, this disparity is primarily attributed to varying local sales tax or VAT rates.
Following a reduction of ₹2 per litre for both petrol and diesel, the first decrease in nearly two years, prices remain above the ₹100 per litre mark in certain states due to higher Value Added Tax (VAT) rates.
Andhra Pradesh currently holds the record for the highest petrol prices in the country at ₹109.87 per litre, followed closely by Kerala where petrol is priced at ₹107.54 per litre. Telangana follows suit with petrol costing ₹107.39 per litre. In Madhya Pradesh, petrol is priced at ₹106.45 per litre, while in Bihar, it stands at ₹105.16 per liter. Maharashtra’s petrol prices are marginally lower at ₹104.19 per litre, just behind Rajasthan where petrol costs ₹104.86 per litre.
