This festive season, job postings in India rose by more than 20%, reaching 2.16 lakh openings compared to 1.8 lakh last year, according to a report by Apna.co, a leading jobs and networking platform. The surge reflects increased hiring across logistics, e-commerce, retail, and hospitality sectors, with rapid expansion in quick commerce further driving the hiring trend.
Logistics and operations saw the most significant growth, with job postings up by 70%. The retail and e-commerce sectors followed closely with a 30% rise, while hospitality recorded a 25% increase. The job growth extended beyond major metros, with tier-2 and tier-3 cities also seeing notable gains.
Rise in Tier-2 and Tier-3 City Jobs
While tier-1 cities like Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad reported a 20% increase in job postings, tier-2 and tier-3 cities like Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Jaipur saw an even larger growth of 25%. Factors such as urbanisation, expanding malls, and higher consumer spending are contributing to this increase.
Expanding Roles Across Key Sectors
Apna.co CEO Nirmit Parikh noted that sector-specific campaigns helped meet hiring needs in logistics, e-commerce, and quick commerce. Retail and e-commerce added 18,000 roles, including positions for category growth managers and sales associates. The hospitality sector opened 14,000 positions, including restaurant managers and administrative staff, underscoring robust demand across India’s job market.
