Ayodhya airport
The Union Cabinet approved the proposal to rename Ayodhya Airport ‘Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhyadham’ on Friday.
Furthermore, at the Cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it was also resolved to declare the airport as an international airport.
On December 30, 2023, PM Modi inaugurated the airport.
“The airport’s name ‘Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhyadham’ pays homage to Maharishi Valmiki, the sage attributed to composing the epic Ramayana, adding a cultural touch to the airport’s identity”, the statement reads.
According to the release, raising the Ayodhya airport to international status is critical for achieving Ayodhya’s economic potential and significance as a global pilgrimage site, as well as opening doors to foreign pilgrims and tourists.
“Ayodhya, with its deep cultural roots, is strategically positioned to become a key economic hub and pilgrimage site”, the statement continued.
“The airport’s potential to attract international pilgrims and businesses aligns with the city’s historical prominence”, the statement added.
