APSEZ To Set Up Dedicated Empty Container Yard With Warehousing At Mundra Port

On Friday, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) announced plans for a dedicated Empty Container Yard at Mundra, combining container storage with warehousing facilities.

The new facility will manage empty containers from storage and inspection to maintenance and onward movement to exporters and container freight stations (CFSs).

APSEZ said the initiative is aimed at making container handling faster and cutting avoidable logistics movements and costs.

The project is part of APSEZ’s ‘Ambition 2031’ strategy, under which the company plans to increase container handling capacity by more than 6 million TEUs over the next five years.

Mundra handles nearly 35 per cent of India’s container trade, while APSEZ accounted for 45.5 per cent of the country’s container market in FY26.

The port processes an estimated 1.6 million TEUs of empty containers each year.

Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and CEO of APSEZ, said the facility would strengthen the wider container ecosystem and support more efficient trade logistics.

APSEZ operates 16 ports and terminals with a fleet of 136 vessels. Its current cargo handling capacity is 653 million tonnes per annum, representing around 27 per cent of India’s total port volumes.

The company, however, aims to reach a throughput of 1 billion tonnes by 2030.
