Adani Logistics Limited (ALL), part of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ), has partnered with global shipping and logistics group CMA CGM to deploy electric trucks for container deliveries from its Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Tumb in Vapi, Gujarat.
The initiative extends electric mobility to the road freight segment, connecting the inland depot with customers’ factories and warehouses.
The deployment forms part of India’s largest truck fleet for container movement, according to the company.
Under the store-door delivery model, trucks transport containers directly from the depot to customers’ premises, linking container-handling facilities with delivery points across the supply chain.
CMA CGM is the first shipping line to use the newly deployed electric fleet. Its containers formed the first consignment transported during the flag-off ceremony, marking the start of the partnership’s electric truck operations.
The collaboration combines Adani Logistics’ inland transportation network with CMA CGM’s global shipping operations to integrate electric vehicles into container delivery services.
Electric trucks produce no tailpipe emissions during operation, offering the potential to reduce pollution along freight routes.
The overall reduction in carbon emissions depends partly on the electricity source used to charge the vehicles.
The deployment highlights growing collaboration between logistics operators and shipping lines to adopt alternative vehicle technologies and reduce the environmental impact of road freight.
Integrating electric trucks into regular container transportation requires planning for charging infrastructure, vehicle range and delivery schedules to maintain operational efficiency and reliable customer service.
The initiative at Tumb marks a step towards lower-emission freight transportation in Gujarat and supports the wider adoption of electric mobility across the logistics sector.
