The Adani Group and Abu Dhabi-based International Holding Company (IHC) have announced plans to establish a mega integrated aluminium project in Odisha with a proposed investment of $11.5 billion (around ₹1.08 lakh crore).
The announcement came during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Bhubaneswar, marking one of the world’s largest investments in the aluminium sector.
Speaking at the event, Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ), described the project as a landmark initiative that would open a new chapter in Odisha’s industrial and economic development. He said the investment reflects global confidence in Odisha and India’s manufacturing sector.
The integrated project will include a 4 MTPA alumina refinery, a 2 MTPA aluminium smelter, and a 1 MTPA downstream aluminium park.
To support operations, the project will include 4,000 MW of captive power generation along with 400 MW of green energy, reinforcing the company’s focus on reliable and sustainable industrial infrastructure.
Karan Adani said the project will transform Odisha’s economy and create large-scale employment. It will generate around 35,000 jobs during construction and support 18,500 jobs once operational. He added that the investment will create opportunities for skilled youth, strengthen local businesses, boost ancillary industries and establish Odisha as a major global aluminium manufacturing hub.
Welcoming IHC’s participation, Karan Adani thanked the Abu Dhabi-based company and other stakeholders for placing their confidence in Odisha and India. He said the partnership demonstrates growing international trust in India’s industrial capabilities and reflects the shared commitment of both organisations to driving economic growth, manufacturing excellence and long-term sustainable development.
