Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has crossed 20 gigawatts (GW) of operational renewable energy capacity, becoming the first renewable energy company in India to achieve the landmark mainly through greenfield development.
Within just a decade of commissioning its first project at Kamuthi in Tamil Nadu, the company has emerged as the country’s fastest-growing renewable energy developer.
AGEL now produces more than 52 billion units of clean electricity every year, accounting for nearly three per cent of India’s annual electricity consumption.
The output is sufficient to power New York City for a year or meet the combined electricity requirements of almost the entire cities of Mumbai and New Delhi.
During FY26 alone, the company added 5,051 MW of renewable energy capacity, the highest annual addition by any company outside China.
The company’s operational portfolio comprises around 14.2 GW of solar power, 2.7 GW of wind energy, and 3.3 GW of wind-solar hybrid capacity.
AGEL has also commissioned 3.55 GWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), representing the world’s largest deployment outside China and supporting the delivery of reliable round-the-clock renewable power.
AGEL continues to expand the world’s largest renewable energy plant at Khavda in Gujarat’s Kutch district.
Spread across 538 square kilometres, the project will have a planned capacity of 30 GW.
The company has already commissioned 9.5 GW of solar capacity at the site, accounting for more than 30 per cent of the project’s total planned capacity.
Future Growth Plans
Executive Director Sagar Adani said the milestone reflects disciplined execution and a long-term vision for India’s clean energy future.
The company plans to add 10 GWh of battery storage during FY27 and expand its storage portfolio to 50 GWh over the next five years, supporting its ambition of achieving 50 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 while strengthening India’s energy security and decarbonisation goals.
