Adani Energy Solutions (AESL), India’s largest private transmission and distribution company, has emerged as the world’s highest ESG-scored utility, according to S&P Global’s latest Media and Stakeholder Analysis review.
Following the assessment, S&P Global corrected a previously impacted governance-related evaluation.
AESL’s ESG Score rose to 90 out of 100, placing it first globally among utilities. The sector average stands at 41, while AESL previously scored 81.
AESL’s disclosure-based Corporate Sustainability Assessment score climbed 17 points year-on-year to 90.
The company recorded an Environmental score of 93, Social score of 89, and Governance & Economic score of 84. These figures significantly exceed industry averages.
Product Stewardship, Climate Strategy and Human Capital Management remained key performance drivers.

AESL operates across power transmission, distribution, smart metering and cooling solutions. It has 29,739 circuit km of transmission network and 1,43,425 MVA transformation capacity. Its retail distribution business serves around 13 million consumers in metropolitan Mumbai and Mundra SEZ.
AESL is expanding its smart metering operations and aims to become India’s leading smart metering integrator.
