Adani Electricity Warns Mumbai Residents Against Kite Flying Near Power Lines During Makar Sankranti

Adani Electricity on Wednesday issued a public advisory urging citizens in Mumbai to avoid flying kites near overhead power transmission lines during Makar Sankranti.

The company stressed that unsafe kite flying poses serious risks to life and can also disrupt electricity supply across the city.

Extending warm wishes for health, happiness, and safe celebrations, Adani Electricity said it released the advisory to promote responsible festivities.

The company highlighted that while it operates a largely underground electricity distribution network to serve nearly 31.5 lakh customers, several overhead transmission lines still run through Mumbai.

These transmission lines carry high-voltage electricity into the city from external sources.

Adani Electricity warned that kite flying near such infrastructure can result in dangerous accidents and large-scale power outages.

The company explained that kite strings, commonly known as manja, conduct electricity efficiently. If the string touches live overhead wires or even enters the arcing zone, it can transmit extremely high voltage.

Adani Electricity appealed to citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report any incident related to unsafe kite flying near power infrastructure.

Consumers can contact the company’s dedicated Power Help Line at 19122 to enable swift corrective action.

The utility also encouraged residents to connect through its official social media handle @Adani_Elec_Mum, its website, or the Adani Electricity mobile application.

The company reiterated that public cooperation plays a crucial role in ensuring an uninterrupted power supply and community safety during festivals.

Makar Sankranti marks the Sun’s transition into the zodiac sign Capricorn, also known as Makar.

Celebrated as a mid-winter harvest festival, it reflects India’s agrarian roots and symbolises seasonal change, renewal, and prosperity.

Adani Electricity urged citizens to uphold these traditions responsibly and prioritise safety while celebrating.
