Know the reason behind why you should use a nimbu mirchi at your homes?
Whenever you walk the Indian streets, you may have observed the so-called Nazar Batttu, Nimbu Mirchi, in everyone’s home. This Nimbu Mirchi can also be found in shops and automobiles, in addition to homes. However, have you ever considered the reasons why people use this Nimbu Mirchi and why it is included in the majority of your favourite things?
Mythology behind the Nazar Battu
According to legend, Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity, wealth, and well-being, also has a twin named Alakshmi. It is believed that Alakshmi is Lakshmi’s opposite and brings poverty, misfortune, and suffering.
In contrast to the sweets that please Goddess Lakshmi, it is interesting that Alakshmi prefers foods that are spicy, hot, and pungent. It is believed that the “nimbu mirchi” combination was set up so that when Alakshmi does come by to say hello and give her bad omen, she is pleased by the lemons and chillies and eats them all without going into the shop, car, house, or anything else.
As a result, people hang Nimbu-mirchi on their doors in the hope that Alakshmi will be drawn to it and not enter the building, thus protecting them from bad luck. Alakshmi is said to feel less inclined to enter a home or business after eating lemon and green chillies.

The science behind Nimbu Mirchi
Lemons are sometimes placed on each table at local restaurants to protect customers from insects that might be looking for food. Because it is the ingredient that causes heat and repels insects like mosquitoes and flies. In contrast, when hung on doors, the charcoal cube that serves as the combination’s base keeps ants away from the door of the house.
As naturally occurring disinfectants, science also supports the combination’s effectiveness as an ancient method of air purification to support good health. The cotton thread that holds the lemon and chillies together absorbs the lemon juice and capsaicin from the chillies and releases a sweet, tangy scent that lasts for a long time and keeps the environment fresh.
