More of Nari Shakti Vandan than Women's Bill

More of Nari Shakti Vandan than Women's Bill

The 5-day special session of Parliament has left the opposition dumbstruck.  They kept wondering what Modi wanted to do.

The first day was devoted to the old Parliament House and it was renamed as the future “Constitution House” before bidding farewell. Unexpectedly for the Congress party, in his first address in the new Parliament, PM Modi praised all the Prime Ministers starting from Nehru to Manmohan Singh.

After the first day’s session in the evening the Cabinet’s decision was made public that by entering the new building on Ganesh Chaturthi, “Nari Shakti Vandan Bill” will be introduced which will provide women of India 33% reservation in Lok Sabha and Assemblies.

This bill was not prepared in a day and none can imagine to what extent it was kept secret. Everyone was speculating with different thoughts in minds as to what could happen in this special session.

Giving reservation to women was exactly as if PM Modi first worshiped “Lord Ganesha, the first deity of worship” and then applied the tilak on the forehead of “Mahalakshmi” while paying respect to women power.

Now, it seems everyone wants to take credit for this and no one is stopping anyone. Nevertheless, prior to taking credit, Congress and other parties will have to ask themselves what happened to their efforts since BJP did not hinder any effort.

Now Aam Aadmi Party calls it a women fool bill while the JDU is saying that this is an election gimmick of BJP. Congress’s stalwart Jairam Ramesh opines that this bill is a post dated check because it will be implemented from 2029. He adds, Congress’ bill is was to be implemented immediately. If it was really so then why couldn’t Congress get his bill passed in the Lok Sabha ?

Samajwadi Party as usual was seen chanting its old tune saying that there should be reservation for Muslims too.

All these parties are seen moaning against Modi and BJP. If they did not like the Bill, why didn’t they dare to vote against the bill ?

The biggest joke has been made by Owaisi, whose party’s two members voted against the bill while 454 supported it. Owaisi says that Muslim women are 7% but are only 0.7% in the Parliament, thus only upper caste women will be benefited from this reservation.

India remembers the case of Shah Bano in which the entire community came out on the streets against the justice given by the Supreme Court. The community had also stood against the abolition of Triple Talaq. Sitting of Muslim women in the Parliament may also be disliked when they are not supposed to sit with their male folks in the mosque.

It is important to say one more thing about women empowerment that as soon as the country got independence, women got the right to vote and this was the first constitutional step for their empowerment. Now see in global canvas, America got independence in 1776 but their women got Voting Right in 1920 which was after 144 years. Women of Britain got this right in 1928 and women of France got this right from 1946.

Not only this, even after 250 years of independence in America, no woman has become the President, whereas in our country both the Prime Minister and the President have been women – we are much “forward” from the west.
