Women-Led Group Endeavours To Bring Naga Culture Back To Life

Although Nagaland has a long and illustrious history of culture and tradition, today’s younger generation is losing touch with those values and practices.
This is when the women’s group Lidi Kro-U stepped in to help preserve and promote Nagaland’s rich culture and traditions, particularly the Angami Naga culture.

Laid out in the year 2012, the association’s vision is to pass on the information and advance the way of life of the Nagas through different projects and furthermore to safeguard the rich social legacy for a long time into the future. They anticipate that Nagaland will, in the not-too-distant future, establish a cultural institute to educate the younger generation about the significance of culture and assist them in reconnecting with their ancestors.

Getting going as a gospel ensemble 10 years prior, Lidi Kro-U today directs active preparation in bamboo bin winding around, headgear making, the winnowing of rice, winding of conventional cloaks and different exercises to give the information to the more youthful age. Workshops, training, and documentation on folk music, folk songs, drama, and other cultural resources are also carried out by the society.

In the 95th episode of Mann Ki Baat, which aired in November 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Lidi Kro-U for its efforts to promote the rich Naga culture and heritage.

As schools and colleges in Nagaland begin to recognize the significance of preserving their cultural heritage, there has been a positive shift in recent years. As guests of honour, they are now inviting cultural luminaries to instruct students on various aspects of Nagaland’s culture.

Lidi Kro-U delivers a humble message to PM Modi on the 100th episode of Mann ki Baat: “We thank PM, Modi, for giving us this opportunity, and may his government continue to support, promote, and protect the rich cultural heritage of Nagaland and all tribal communities.”

“Communities and societies are brought closer together by gaining a deeper understanding of cultural heritage. The message stated that “every Indian finds their roots in its cultural heritage,” which makes India unique.

In his Mann ki Baat episode, Modi profoundly valued the crafted by Lidi Kro-U and assisted them with gaining more extensive appreciation.
