Prachand and Oli
Nepal: The politics of Nepal exposes the truth of the universal reality in the sphere of politics around the globe. The reality displays that the polity actually does not have its own real face, but it keeps changing its face as per the requirement phase by phase.
Nepal: Till yesterday Pushkamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Sher Bahadur Deuba were forming the government together, but now Prachanda and KP Oli have suddenly shaken hands coming together and they are now about to form their own government.
In Nepal, these three big leaders are directors of three national parties. The first is the Nepali Congress and the remaining two are communist parties. These three parties have been bitter rivals of each other. Their workers have been killing each other also and they also have formed governments with each other and due to their political differences, their governments have failed to satisfy each other.
Thus for them the chair itself is the ultimate reality leaving the principles and policies behind as also seen in India so often. Now Prachanda will remain the Prime Minister, for the next two and a half years and for the remaining two and a half years, KP Oli will become the PM. If Deuba had allowed Prachanda to become Prime Minister before him, he could have become Prime Minister again but in the last election his Nepali Congress won 89 seats and Prachanda’s party could get only 32 seats.
The Nepali Congress aspired to give Prachanda’s party only the post of Speaker of Parliament but wanted to keep the posts of President and Prime Minister with itself. That’s why Prachanda quickly pacified his rival Comrade Oli and formed a coalition of 168 members with him by adding 78 members of his party along with members of a few other parties too.
This alliance got a clear majority in the 275-member Nepali parliament. But now the question is, how long will this government run? The tenure of the governments in Nepal has been getting shorter gradually, perhaps this is shorter than in any other country.
Prime Minister Prachanda has 32 members and Oli has 78 members. Whenever Oli would like, he will pull Prachanda’s chair or hold him down with his tongs. No wonder, if within a few months we see a new coalition emerging in Kathmandu. Whatever is the case, if anyone will be most happy with the alliance of Prachanda and Oli, this is going to be China. Both the leaders are hardcore supporters of China. Oli had even declared three Indian regions as Nepalese in his new maps.

Not only this border-dispute can catch fire any time now, but the Indo-Nepal Treaty of 1950 is also a disputed issue. When both the leaders were engaged in a violent anti-incumbency struggle for a decade, they also attacked India fiercely. Now both are together, which is even more fatal in the perspective of India. Henceforth, India has to be a little extra vigilant to protect its national interests.
