There must be severe punishment against such acts of adulteration
Without any doubt, there is no proper punishment against adulterants in India. This is one of the most talked about things in India and outside as well, bringing disrepute to India all over the world. Now the recent adulteration examples belong to the exploits of two Indian pharmaceutical companies.
Even more painful than this infamy is the fact that 60 children in Gambia and 16 in Uzbekistan died from the drugs of these two companies – Maiden Pharma and Merion Biotech. People were stunned to encounter the reports in the newspapers. Obviously, these incidents will have a very bad effect on the export of medicines worth billions of dollars from India every year.
Doubts will arise in the minds of foreigners even on the authentic medicines of India. Our medicines are very cheap as compared to America and Europe. There is also a sad possibility that if this case is taken seriously and the supply of drugs get held then the poor patients of Asia and Africa who are served by these medicines will now be deprived.
So far, one question requires its answer: ‘If the medicines are adulterated or cheap in quality, why only they took a toll on the patients of Gambia and Uzbekistan? Why not in other parts of the world too where they are being supplied for decades? Obviously, the reason for the death of those children from the two countries may have been something else.
When this news surfaced about two months ago, unconfirmed sources also said that the samples of these medicines have been tested here and they have been found to be fine. On the other hand, the investigators of these countries now say after completion of the test that these medicines have the presence of some spurious and harmful liquids that they became fatal. This conclusion has now been confirmed by an American investigation company as well.
The Government of India has lodged a police report against these companies and arrested some of their employees, but the owners and senior managers of both companies are still absconding. If they are sure that no adulteration has been done in their medicines then what is there to be scared about? It is also possible that adulteration may have been done without the knowledge of the owners and managers.
If so, then those employees should be given the harshest punishment and if the owner and manager are also responsible for this murderous adulteration, then their punishment should be even more severe. A fine of ten or twenty lakh or one or two crore rupees will not suffice against the act committed by such people. The fine would certainly be meaningless. Considering all of them responsible for the mass murder of 76 children, their punishment should also be so severe that the future adulterers go sleepless.

Post confirmation of the adulteration in the case, this punishment should be given as soon as possible so that our people could see the result of what these people have been doing. It might sound little exaggerating but these people should not be hanged behind the closed doors of the jail, they should be hanged at the crossroads and it should be telecast live on every TV channel. After that India will see that no one will find any kind of adulterants in the country, nowhere in the country.
