Trudeau should not have gone for it..
This is as simple as that. India’s global ties were stronger than the sulking of Canada, isolating it resultantly in Khalistan row.
The courtship with India by the United States and others signifies India as a counterweight to China. On the other side of the rod if it is Canada, with a just forty million population against India, it severely will be outgunned on the diplomacy grounds.
Canada’s allies do not look interested to contemplate any sort of joint condemnation against India.
As reported, Canada had intelligence which insinuates a possible connection of Indian government agents to the killing a pro-Khalistan Sikh leader.
India is being courted by the United States and others as a counterweight to China, and this means Canada, with a population of just 40 million people, is severely outgunned diplomatically.
Let us listen to what the experts say. “In Western calculations on the global geo-political deck it is India which is needed to balance China, not Canada,” says a Candian professor teaching international relations.
“And this is where Canada has been put offside among all other Western nations,” adds the professor.
The statement in the Canadian parliament by PM Trudeau on Monday says that Canada was “actively pursuing credible allegations” that agents from India were potentially involved in the killing of Canadian citizen Nijjar three months ago in June this year.
And from June itself Canada has been discussing this with its major allies. The issue has been raised by it Five Eyes intelligence alliance which also includes America, England, Australia and New Zealand. But all in vain.
The muted results show Britain rejecting the idea of openly criticizing India. It also made it clear that the bilateral trade talks with India will go on as planned. Britain looks caught in a tough position. It cannot support Canada and antagonize India at the same time. Britain wants India as their trading partner and as a close ally too to help confront China.
