On the day of the publishing of a report on Kyiv’s progress as a candidate country, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared on Tuesday that his country would be in the European Union.

“Tomorrow is an important day”, Zelensky stated in his daily speech to the nation, calling the upcoming report ‘historic’.

The European Commission is scheduled to submit a report on Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia’s progress on Wednesday, as well as decide whether or not to launch accession negotiations before the union’s 27 members take up the subject at a summit in Brussels in mid-December.

According to Zelensky, his country is preparing its next steps, including strengthening its institutions.

“Ukraine will be in the EU”, Zelensky continued, noting the long way the country has already come towards the goal.

The Ukrainian President agreed that adapting to EU standards would necessitate work on Kyiv’s part.

The EU granted Ukraine candidate status in a symbolic move in June 2022.

To proceed to the next stage, the start of membership discussions, the European Commission has set seven criteria for Kyiv to meet.

They include requirements for combating widespread corruption and judicial reforms.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission stated in September that Ukraine had achieved substantial progress.
