Sajjan Jindal, an industrialist, supported Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy’s claim on Friday that young people in India need to work at least 70 hours per week.
The head of the JSW Group expressed his complete support for Murthy’s remarks and added that a fast-rising nation like India does not require a five-day workweek culture.
Every day, PM Narendra Modi ji puts in more than 14–16 hours of labor. My dad used to put in 12–14 hours a day, seven days a week. I put about 10 to 12 hours a day at work,” Jindal posted on X, the previous Twitter. “We need to be passionate about what we do and about creating our country.
Further, Jindal pointed out that India’s circumstances and challenges are unique to those in developed nations.
“They (developed nations) are working 4 or 5 days a week because their earlier generations clocked longer and more productive hours. We can’t let shorter work weeks elsewhere become our standard,” he pointed out.
Emphasizing that India’s greatest strength is its youth, Jindal said that the younger generation has to prioritize work over leisure in the country’s journey to become a superpower.
The chairperson of the JSW Group remarked, “As we advance, there will be opportunities for comfort, and the youth of 2047 will reap the benefits of our sacrifices and diligence.”
“It’s about dedication, not burnout,” he continued. India needs to become a global economic powerhouse in which we can all take pride.
Murthy’s statement
Earlier, Murthy stated that India must increase labor productivity if it is to compete with the fastest-growing nations, such as China and Japan, in an interview with Mohandas Pai, the former CFO of Infosys.
