Ethics Committee To Conduct Hearing On BJP MP
The Lok Sabha ethics committee has summoned BJP Member of Parliament Nishikant Dubey and advocate Jai Anand Dehadrai for a hearing on October 26 regarding their involvement in the “cash for query” allegations against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra. This development follows the referral of Mr. Dubey’s complaint against Ms. Moitra to the ethics committee.
Nishikant Dubey has accused Mahua Moitra of accepting bribes to pose questions in Parliament on behalf of businessman Darshan Hiranandani, purportedly to target the Adani group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Mr. Dubey has leveled charges of breaching parliamentary privilege, contempt of the House, and criminal conspiracy against the Trinamool leader.
In his correspondence with the Speaker, Mr. Dubey claimed to have received a letter from Mr. Dehadrai containing “indisputable evidence of bribes” allegedly exchanged between Ms. Moitra and business magnate Darshan for the purpose of asking questions in Parliament.
Mahua Moitra has vehemently denied these allegations and has stated her willingness to undergo any inquiry.
The Hiranandani Group, the business entity in question, has also rejected the accusations. A spokesperson for the group clarified that they have always focused on business activities and not politics. They assert their commitment to working with the government for the betterment of the nation.
Mr. Dubey suggested that the Hiranandani Group lost energy and infrastructure contracts to the Adani Group, and Ms. Moitra’s questions were aimed at serving the interests of the Hiranandani Group.
The Adani Group responded to the situation by stating that these allegations against Ms. Moitra highlight the efforts of certain groups and individuals to harm the reputation, goodwill, and market standing of the Adani Group. They mentioned that the arrangement to tarnish the group’s reputation and that of their Chairman Gautam Adani has been ongoing since 2018, as per the lawyer’s complaint.
