Recently, a video surfaced on social media showing India’s World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev, seemingly being handcuffed and led into a room by two unidentified men. This raised concerns about his well-being among netizens, including former cricketer Gautam Gambhir. Many questioned whether the video was genuine or if it could be part of an elaborate advertising stunt.

Gautam Gambhir expressed his concerns on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by posting, “Anyone else received this clip, too? Hope it’s not actually @therealkapildev and that Kapil Paaji is fine!”

It has since been clarified that the video was actually part of a promotional shoot for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. Gambhir later shared this update, saying, “Areh @therealkapildev paaji well played! Acting ka World Cup bhi aap hi jeetoge! Ab hamesha yaad rahega ki ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is free on @DisneyPlusHS mobile.”

Kapil Dev, who began his international cricket career in October 1978 against Pakistan, has an impressive cricketing record. He played 131 Test matches, scoring 5,248 runs and taking 438 wickets. In One-Day Internationals, he represented India in 225 games, picking up 253 wickets and scoring 3,783 runs. Notably, he scored one century in the limited-overs format, the famous knock of 175 against Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup.

During the same tournament, Kapil Dev’s exceptional performance led India to victory, securing their maiden World Cup title by defeating the West Indies in the final. Kapil Dev, a recipient of the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards, concluded his playing career in 1994.

This incident serves as a reminder of the impact and legacy of Kapil Dev in Indian cricket.
