A video featuring veteran Congress leader A K Antony’s wife, Elizabeth, explaining their elder son Anil Antony’s recent entry into the BJP has gone viral on social media, causing a predicament for the Congress party in Kerala.

In the video, which was released on a YouTube channel associated with a Christian meditation center, an emotional Elizabeth candidly reveals that she was aware of Anil’s invitation from the BJP well in advance. She credits intercessory prayers for her son’s newfound political opportunity and suggests that prayer played a role in resolving the family’s issues arising from his unexpected switch to the BJP.

Elizabeth acknowledges that both her sons had political aspirations, but the Congress party’s recent resolution against dynasty politics at the Chintan Shivir posed a setback. She shares the moment when Anil informed her about the BJP’s invitation, stating that he received a call from the Prime Minister’s Office on his 39th birthday.

Despite their family’s allegiance to the Congress Party, Anil believed that joining the BJP would provide better opportunities. Elizabeth, who initially held contempt for the BJP, claims that her views evolved through prayer, and she kept Anil’s decision a secret within the family.

Elizabeth also reveals that A K Antony, her husband, was shocked to learn about Anil’s BJP entry through TV channels four days later. Eventually, he accepted his son’s decision but set a condition that politics should not be discussed at home.

The video portrays Elizabeth as suggesting that her prayers played a role in A K Antony’s membership in the Congress Working Committee (CWC).

Various news channels have broadcasted Elizabeth’s video, amplifying its reach on social media platforms. As of now, there has been no official response from the Congress leadership, A K Antony, or Anil Antony regarding this matter.

Anil Antony, the son of former Defence Minister A K Antony, joined the BJP in April of this year. After joining the BJP, he criticized a section of the Congress leadership for prioritizing the interests of a single family over the country’s welfare. Anil, who previously led the Kerala Congress’ digital media cell, was welcomed into the BJP by Union ministers Piyush Goyal and V Muraleedharan as the ruling party aimed to strengthen its presence in the southern state. A K Antony, a close confidant of former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, expressed his disappointment, calling his son’s decision “wrong” and “very painful.”
