On Saturday, the Commerce and Industry Ministry stated that the Centre has requested states to formulate logistics policies to improve ease of doing business.

It was also advised to the states that quality data be integrated into the portal for the state master plan in order to broaden the adoption of the PM GatiShakti program.

The initiative assists in the appropriate planning and execution of infrastructure projects.

These problems were reviewed in a meeting convened on August 31 by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to encourage wider implementation of PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (NMP).

Sumita Dawra, Special Secretary of the DPIIT, presided over the meeting.

The ministry stated, “The states/UTs are being encouraged to formulate State Logistics Policy (SLPs) aligned with National Logistics Policy (NLP) to bring holistic focus on logistics in public policy at the state level”.

So far, 22 states have made their logistics policies public.

It stated that the states/Union Territories were made aware of the benefits of using the PM GatiShakti NMP at the district level for planning purposes.

“To enable area-based development, it is essential to adopt PM GatiShakti principles for gap identification, project planning, etc. at grass root level”, the ministry added.

Various benefits of NMP were explained to states through leveraging data layers and tools for effective, data-driven decision-making.
