Are you looking for films to see this year with your siblings and cousins? Here is our collection of realistic and melodramatic Bollywood flicks.

The famous quote from Karan Johar states that loving your family is everything. Bollywood and emotions go hand in hand, so watching some Hindi films with your relatives and siblings during Rakshabandhan is one of the best ways to unwind. Rakshabandhan is observed in some areas of India on Wednesday and Thursday. You will be moved to tears seeing these actors go to great measures for their on-screen siblings, whether it is Dev Anand’s affection for on-screen sister Zeenat Aman or the more current Akshay Kumar’s passion for his gang of four sisters.

Hare Rama Hare Krishna

In the Dev Anand-directed film Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Prashant (Dev Anand) and his hunt for his sister (Zeenat Aman) were followed throughout their lives. The film, which was released in 1971, also addressed the drug epidemic. The movie included a message against drugs, but it also stressed the value of strong family ties. Dev Anand produced, wrote, and directed it. Mumtaz, Rajendra Nath, Prem Chopra, Mehmood, and Iftekhar all played prominent roles in the movie. Additionally, the movie won two Filmfare Awards that year: Best Female Playback Singer for Asha Bhosle and Best Supporting Actress for Zeenat. The song, Phoolon Ka Taaron Ka Sabka Kehna Hai, which first appeared in Hare Rama Hare Krishna, is almost a Rakshabandhan classic.

Satte Pe Satta

Satte Pe Satta, one of Amitabh Bachchan’s earliest films, portrayed the tale of seven brothers and how they care for and love one another through good times and bad. It starred Hema as his wife and Sachin Pilgaonkar, Sudhir, Shakti Kapoor, Kanwarjit Paintal, and Kanwaljit Singh as Amitabh’s younger brothers.

Bandhan

This 1998 film, which starred Salman Khan in the title role, demonstrated how a brother who was given to his sister’s in-laws before her marriage was ready to endure any humiliation for the benefit of his sister. In the movie, Jackie Shroff played Salman’s brother-in-law, and Rambha starred alongside him. One of the movie’s most well-known quotes is “Jo Jeeja ji bolenge wo mai karunga (I will do anything that my brother-in-law asks me to do)”.

Fiza

Fiza, a crime thriller with a setting in the fiercely charged Kashmir of the 1990s, presented the tale of a woman (Karishma Kapoor) who went in search of her brother (Hrithik Roshan) only to find out he had become a terrorist. The 2000 movie also follows their lives as he visits his family, rejoins his terrorist organisation, and ultimately becomes the target of their quest. It’s extremely unsettling to see how determined Fiza is to find her brother. The movie, which was directed by Khalid Mohammed, starred Jaya Bachchan as Hrithik’s mother.

Dil Dhadakne Do

In the Zoya Akhtar-directed film Dil Dhadakne Do, Priyanka Chopra and Ranveer Singh played siblings. Although their relationship is not the main emphasis of the story, there are several heartfelt instances when they stand up for one another. The way Ayesha (Priyanka) stood up to their parents for her brother’s freedom of choice struck me as unusual. Likewise, Kabir (Ranveer) makes the decision to defend her and rejects any harsh behaviour directed at her.

Sarbjit

Sarbjit is marketed as a Randeep Hooda movie, however Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Dalbir and Randeep Hooda’s Sarbjit are the main characters. The 2016 film depicted the true story of Dalbir and Sarbjit, who fought a protracted battle to be released from a Pakistani prison.

Dhanak

The 2015 film by Nagesh Kukonoor centres on the affection between two young children. It’s a sweet tale of a sister who treks across the desert to see her brother’s eye doctor. That year, the movie won the National Film Award for Best Children’s Film.

Patakha

Sanya Malhotra and Radhika Madan are featured in the Vishal Bhardwaj-directed film Pataakha. The 2018 movie, which Vishal also wrote and produced, was released. The film, which is loosely based on Charan Singh Pathik’s short story Do Behnein, is an enjoyable journey that depicts sibling rivalry in its ugliest light. The sisters’ conflict takes up the most of the movie, but ultimately it centres on their bond of love. Vijay Raaz and Sunil Grover play significant parts as well.

Raksha Bandhan

The social evils of dowry and body-shaming were the focus of Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bandhan, but the message was spread through the story of a brother’s love for his sisters. The 2022 movie, which was written by Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon, was helmed by Aanand L. Rai. Sahejmeen Kaur, Sadia Khateeb, Deepika Khanna, and Smrithi Srikanth portrayed the parts of Akshay’s sisters, while Bhumi Pednekar played the love interest.
