Another distressing incident occurred on Thursday morning in the Bishnupur district of Manipur where a gunfight between two communities in Bishnupur’s Moirang area erupted. Disturbingly, gunshots had already been heard the previous night, as reported by the villagers.
The violence took a devastating turn, with several homes allegedly set ablaze during the confrontation. This perilous situation forced many villagers residing near the conflict zone to seek shelter elsewhere for their safety.
As per media reports, describing the harrowing experience, one local resident said, “The gunfight has been ongoing since last night. We haven’t slept or eaten anything.” The continuous exchange of gunfire had instilled agitation among all the villagers.
In a separate incident on Wednesday, a mob in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district set up two buses on fire that were used to transport security personnel. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported from this incident. The buses were targeted at Sapormeina while returning from Dimapur on Tuesday evening.
The region remains tense as authorities try to address the situation and prevent further escalation of violence.
In another gun-fight incident that occurred in the state between village volunteers and a group of militants in the Khamenlok area last month, three people were injured and admitted to a hospital in Imphal. The continuous horrific incidents coming to light in Manipur have raised concerns about safety among the residents of the state.
