‘Secure-SCO’ is the topic of India’s Chairmanship of SCO in 2023. India places a high value on the SCO’s role in developing regional, political, security, economic, and people-to-people ties.
In the interim, Mr. Jaishankar is scheduled to hold three more bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Russia, China, and Uzbekistan at the end of today.
Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Goa today morning to participate in a two-day meeting of foreign ministers.
Lavrov was accompanied by a delegation when he entered India.
Foreign ministers of China and Pakistan will also personally participate in the meeting. The ministers will discuss a number of important geopolitical issues, including the economic cooperation of SCO members and regional security.
This is Lavrov’s second visit to India this year. He previously attended the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi in March this year.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is a multinational organization that was founded in 2001. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is made up of Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, as well as Russia, India, and China. Continued cooperation with the SCO has helped India maintain its relations with countries in the region with which India has cultural ties and is considered India’s extended neighbor.
In 2022, at the SCO Summit in Samarkand, India took over the rotating presidency of SCO.
Pakistan foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is also scheduled to arrive in Goa today for the SCO summit. However, a bilateral meeting between India and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister has yet to be confirmed.
The foreign ministers meeting is one of several important SCO gatherings that India is hosting this year. All SCO members have received formal invitations from India, and participation in the summit has been confirmed by the foreign ministries of China, Pakistan, and Russia.
