According to police, the incident occurred when a machine used for mixing gravel during road construction came into contact with an overhead high-tension electricity line. The current spread through the machinery, electrocuting workers at the site and leaving several others with burn injuries.
Udaipurwati SHO Rampal confirmed the incident and said authorities took the injured to hospital.
The deaths sparked protests, with villagers demanding accountability for safety lapses at the construction site. Police and officials reached the spot as authorities awaited further details about the victims and injured workers.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed condolences and directed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured, provide immediate assistance to affected families and investigate the incident.
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also mourned the deaths and called for a thorough investigation to establish how the accident occurred and fix responsibility. He urged the government to provide adequate compensation and all possible assistance to the bereaved families.
