India will face New Zealand in the second T20I of their five-match series at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, on Saturday. The reigning two-time T20 World Champions lead 1-0 after winning a high-scoring opener on Thursday.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi could return to the playing XI after Ishan Kishan suffered a low-grade right adductor strain.
India chased 226 in the opening match, with Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Shreyas Iyer and Naman Dhir contributing to the successful pursuit.
Sooryavanshi’s inclusion could see India open with two left-handers alongside Abhishek, while Samson moves to No 3.
New Zealand may respond by introducing an off-spinner early, an approach that troubled India during the 2026 T20 World Cup.
The hosts will aim to recover quickly after India’s opening victory. Although New Zealand remained competitive in the high-scoring contest, another defeat would leave them facing a difficult challenge in the five-match series.
The same venue and pitch will host Saturday’s match. While the surface supported substantial scoring in the opener, wear and tear could offer bowlers greater assistance.
The match will mark India’s 300th T20I, making them the second team to reach the milestone after Pakistan, who have played 304 matches.
India have recorded 199 outright victories, while wins in Super Overs and bowl-outs take their overall tally to 205.
