A man claiming to reside in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was apprehended at Delhi’s Jama Masjid Metro Station with approximately 155 grams of gold powder-like substance concealed inside an undergarment kept in his backpack, police said.

The recovered material was subsequently examined by the Narcotics Department, which ruled out the possibility that it was a narcotic or psychotropic substance.

Police said the man could not produce documentary proof establishing ownership of the material or provide a satisfactory explanation for possessing it.

Authorities subsequently initiated legal proceedings against him under the Delhi Police Act.

According to police, CISF personnel apprehended the passenger on October 17 during baggage screening and frisking at the metro station.

The accused was identified as Mohd Shuaib, a resident of Khalapar in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar. He disclosed an address in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Case Background

During preliminary interrogation, Shuaib told police that he lived in Malaysia and worked in the textile sector. He further claimed that his wife was a Malaysian citizen and that they had two children, both Malaysian nationals.

Shuaib told investigators that he arrived in Delhi on October 16 carrying the substance. He was staying at a hotel he identified as Wasir in the Jama Masjid area.

Police initially suspected that the recovered material could be a narcotic or psychotropic substance and contacted the concerned Narcotics Department for examination. Officials ruled out that possibility.

Customs authorities were informed and asked to initiate appropriate legal action. They declined to act, stating that the matter did not fall within their jurisdiction.

Shuaib failed to establish ownership of the material or satisfactorily explain its possession. The police initiated proceedings against him at the Supreme Court Metro Police Station under the Delhi Police Act.

When security staff attempted to examine the matter further, Shuaib allegedly tried to escape the screening area.

CISF personnel chased him and apprehended him near the station’s exit gate before he could leave the premises.
