Musk, however, did not disclose how the proposed distribution would work.
Details regarding eligibility, the timeline, regulatory clearances and the method of transferring the shares remain unknown.
Musk remains SpaceX’s largest shareholder. According to a recent regulatory filing, he held a 48.4 per cent stake in the company as of June 30.
The filing showed that his holdings total approximately 6.42 billion shares. These include 849.5 million Class A shares and 3.92 billion Class B shares held through trusts for which he serves as trustee.
Musk directly owns around 1.30 billion restricted Class B shares and holds rights linked to stock options covering another 350 million Class B shares.
SpaceX operates commercial launch services, the Starlink satellite internet network and human spaceflight missions, making it one of the world’s most valuable privately held companies.
Musk recently unveiled a new version of the Roadster sports car at a SpaceX facility in Texas.
A demonstration video shared on X showed the prototype travelling along an elevated, curved track before briefly becoming airborne and landing safely.
The unusual display prompted comparisons with the concept of a flying car.
Musk’s proposed share distribution, meanwhile, remains short on implementation details, with no further information provided about how the plan would be carried out.
