Gill, Shafali Win ICC Player Of The Month Awards For September 2026

India’s Shubman Gill and Shafali Verma have claimed the ICC Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month awards for September 2026, completing India’s third double in the award’s history.

Gill secured his fifth monthly honour after delivering outstanding performances in India’s ODI series against the West Indies.

Verma received her second award following key contributions to India’s victories at the Women’s Asia Cup and the Asian Games.

The right-handed batter extended his record as the men’s category’s most frequent winner, drawing level with West Indies captain Hayley Matthews, who has won the award five times.

Gill scored 110 in the opening ODI in Thiruvananthapuram, helping India secure an eight-wicket victory and take a 1-0 lead. He then struck 223 off 133 deliveries, becoming the fastest to reach a double century in ODI history as India chased 406.

The hosts won by eight wickets with 39 balls remaining.

Verma finished as India’s leading run-scorer during their Women’s Asia Cup-winning campaign, accumulating 360 runs at a strike rate of 184.61 and taking six wickets. She continued her impressive form at the Asian Games, scoring an unbeaten 100 against Bangladesh in the semi-final before making 48 in the final against Sri Lanka.

The opener previously won the award in November 2025 after her match-winning performance in the Women’s World Cup final against South Africa in Navi Mumbai.

Verma described the latest recognition as an honour and expressed her determination to maintain her form ahead of the Women’s Champions Trophy in February.

Other Nominees and India’s Previous Doubles

India’s Abhishek Sharma and Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza featured on the men’s shortlist.

Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu and India’s Sree Charani were nominated in the women’s category.

India previously achieved the double in June 2024, when Jasprit Bumrah and Smriti Mandhana won, and in September 2025, when Abhishek Sharma and Mandhana received the honours.
