Samadhan Abhiyan Study Finds Only 17% Understand POCSO Law Properly

Samadhan Abhiyan, an organisation working to prevent child sexual abuse, released key findings on awareness of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act during its Annual Day 2026 programme at the Press Club of India in New Delhi.

The organisation’s study found that most people have heard the term ‘POCSO’, but only 17 per cent understand the law and its provisions properly.

The findings highlighted the need to focus awareness efforts on adults, particularly parents, teachers and communities, who play a crucial role in protecting children.

Samadhan Abhiyan Founder and President Archana Agnihotri said the lack of adequate knowledge remains a major challenge to child safety.

She called for sustained awareness programmes at the community level.

DCPCR Chairman Om Prakash Vyas appreciated efforts to strengthen child protection and rights. He also emphasised the importance of continuous awareness and collective action.

Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Lata Gupta, Greater Kailash MLA Shikha Rai, DCPCR members Swati Gupta and Kundan Kanskar, Major General Dr Atul Bajpai and other guests attended the event.

A special presentation examined POCSO-related data and experiences from the field. It highlighted child protection concerns, grassroots challenges and the importance of community participation.

The organisation honoured Dr Sanjay Kumar for education, Sudha Kumari Jha for environmental work and Pia Jindal for healthcare.

The awardees shared their experiences and discussed challenges in social work.

Samadhan Abhiyan highlighted its ‘Break the Silence; Speak Up Now’ campaign, 360° Rehabilitation Support initiative and Waste Workers’ Welfare, Inclusion and Climate Resilience Initiative.

The organisation said the rehabilitation initiative has established six child-friendly centres at police stations across Uttar Pradesh.

Senior Vice-President Sheelam Bajpai thanked the guests, social workers, partners and core team for their support.
