PM Modi, Swiss President Guy Parmelin Hold Talks On Trade, AI, Defence And Mobility

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Swiss President Guy Parmelin held extensive discussions on Monday to strengthen cooperation between India and Switzerland across multiple areas.

The leaders discussed trade, investment, innovation, Artificial Intelligence, military exchanges, defence manufacturing, nuclear energy, science and technology and people-to-people connections.

PM Modi and Parmelin reiterated their support for peaceful dialogue, diplomacy and reforms in international institutions.

The two leaders took note of the positive developments under the India-European Free Trade Association Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA). They backed efforts to build an innovation-driven partnership and identified several areas for deeper collaboration.

The two sides reached new understandings covering transport, mobility and infrastructure, migration and mobility and opportunities for young professionals. They advanced joint research initiatives in health, clean energy and space.

Parmelin received a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan earlier on Monday. Speaking after the ceremony, he described his visit as an opportunity to reinforce the importance both countries attach to their bilateral relationship.

The Swiss President said India-Switzerland ties rest on shared democratic values, trust and mutual respect. He further described the visit as an important step towards expanding their long-standing partnership.

Parmelin highlighted the first anniversary of the India-EFTA TEPA as another important milestone during his visit.

The Swiss President arrived in India on Monday for a three-day State visit at PM Modi’s invitation. His programme focuses on trade, investment, science, technology, innovation and mobility.

This marks Parmelin’s first State visit to India. He had earlier travelled to New Delhi in February 2026 to attend the AI Impact Summit.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, MEA Secretary (West) Sibi George and other senior officials attended the talks.
