Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio, Deputy CM Yanthungo Patton Meet Amit Shah In New Delhi

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Friday to discuss key issues concerning the state.

Rio said the delegation sought Shah’s intervention and support to accelerate Nagaland’s development goals. He further thanked the Home Minister for his continued guidance and support.

Patton said the leaders discussed Nagaland’s development priorities, along with the welfare and aspirations of its people. He further expressed gratitude to Shah for his time and continued attention to the state.

The meeting comes days after the Nagaland Legislative Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution urging the Centre to urgently review and withdraw the Protected Area Permit (PAP) regime in the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Patton, who holds the Home and Border Affairs portfolios, moved the resolution during the ninth session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

The House cited Nagaland’s peaceful environment and growing prospects in tourism, culture, investment, entrepreneurship and international engagement. It noted that tourism, services and creative industries have become important sources of employment, particularly for young people.

The Assembly highlighted repeated demands from civil society groups, tribal organisations, tourism stakeholders, entrepreneurs and other sections of Naga society for PAP withdrawal or relaxation.

The PAP regime operates under the Foreigners (Protected Areas) Order, 1958. It regulates and restricts foreign nationals’ entry into designated areas of Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram.

Rio and Patton’s meeting with Shah comes as Nagaland seeks greater development opportunities and renewed policy support from the Centre.
