Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Friday thanked India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for hosting the BRICS Summit in New Delhi and advancing cooperation within the grouping.
Speaking at the BRICS Business Forum ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit, Pezeshkian praised India’s efforts to deepen BRICS collaboration. He said private businesses and entrepreneurs could turn the bloc’s cooperation into tangible economic outcomes.
Pezeshkian highlighted the ongoing conflict in West Asia and its human and material costs. He stressed that economic security remains closely linked to national and regional security.
The Iranian President warned that pressure on trade, energy, infrastructure and financial systems can trigger consequences beyond national borders. He further pointed to supply-chain disruptions and the growing use of economic measures as instruments of political pressure.
Pezeshkian argued that BRICS must convert its combined economic strength into practical networks for trade, investment and financing. He called for greater diversification of trade partners, funding sources and payment channels.
The Iranian President urged BRICS members to integrate trade infrastructure gradually through digitalisation, customs coordination, trade facilitation and reduced regulatory barriers. He further called for stronger markets and easier joint investment by private companies.
Pezeshkian proposed creating a BRICS joint reinsurance company with an initial capital of $10 billion. He said the facility could cover risks linked to major infrastructure and energy projects while boosting private-sector confidence.
The Iranian President urged BRICS to play a greater role in artificial intelligence, knowledge creation and digital-economy standards.
Pezeshkian further called for stronger cybersecurity measures to protect critical infrastructure.
