External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira in New Delhi on Friday and reviewed the expanding partnership between the two countries.
The Ministers examined opportunities to increase cooperation in trade, investment, defence, energy, agriculture and space while taking stock of their engagement through major multilateral platforms. They discussed cooperation between India and Brazil at the United Nations, G20 and International Maritime Organisation, alongside developments shaping the current geopolitical environment.
Jaishankar and Vieira considered how BRICS 2026 could strengthen dialogue and diplomacy amid changing global circumstances.

Vieira arrived in the national capital on Thursday to attend the 18th BRICS Summit, which India will host on September 12 and 13 under its 2026 chairship.
The Ministry of External Affairs welcomed the Brazilian Minister and underlined the longstanding friendship between the two nations. It further highlighted their shared objective of advancing cooperation among countries of the Global South.
The upcoming summit will feature leaders from BRICS member states, partner countries and outreach invitees.
The grouping currently includes Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the UAE.
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva visited India earlier this year for a State visit, during which he attended the Second AI Impact Summit and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The two leaders discussed ways to expand cooperation in trade, investment, education, digitalisation and economic development, along with Global South priorities and multilateral matters. They reaffirmed their commitment to an inclusive and multipolar world order and backed stronger international efforts to combat terrorism.
