Chandigarh hosted a blood donation camp at the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday, where the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCH&RC), Punjab, collected 80 units of blood.
Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, and HBCH&RC Director Dr Ashish Gulia attended the event. Justice Mishra donated blood and encouraged others to support the initiative.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court organised the camp in partnership with HBCH&RC Punjab, PGIMER Chandigarh, GMSH-16 and the Shree Shiv Kanwar Mahasangh Charitable Trust (Regd), Panchkula.
Several judges, advocates and High Court employees participated in the drive and contributed to the voluntary blood donation effort.
Dr Ashish Gulia spoke about the importance and safety of donating blood. He said he had donated blood since the age of 18 and emphasised that healthy individuals can safely participate in such drives. He further underlined the significant requirement for blood during cancer treatment and called for more regular voluntary donations.
“Blood donation is a completely safe procedure for a healthy individual and is one of the simplest ways to help save lives. Cancer treatment often requires a significant amount of blood, making regular voluntary blood donation extremely important,” Dr Gulia said.
Dr Gulia urged members of the public to come forward and donate blood, stressing that every contribution can support patients requiring critical medical care. He further encouraged willing donors to visit HBCH&RC in New Chandigarh to contribute directly.
The blood donation initiative at the High Court highlighted the importance of voluntary participation in supporting patients, particularly those undergoing cancer treatment.
