Did Parliament's Saffron Protest Cross A Line? Hindu Seers Think So

Hindu seers and organisations criticised Opposition MPs for using saffron attire during a Parliament protest over Ram Temple donations.

Hindu seers, priests and the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) strongly criticised the Opposition’s protest at Parliament’s Makar Dwar on Friday, alleging that it hurt religious sentiments by using saffron attire during a demonstration over the alleged Ram Temple donation controversy.

Several prominent seers and office-bearers associated with the Ram Temple and other religious institutions condemned the protest. They demanded action against the MPs involved and called for their expulsion from Parliament.

VHP International Joint General Secretary Surendra Jain urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to take strict action.

In a video message, Surendra Jain criticised Independent MP Pappu Yadav for wearing the attire of Hindu priests and objected to the participation of Congress and Samajwadi Party MPs in the demonstration.

During the protest, Pappu Yadav sat at Parliament’s entrance dressed in saffron robes with padlocked containers representing donation boxes.

Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and several Opposition MPs placed currency notes into the containers as part of the symbolic protest.

Yadav then ran away with the boxes while other MPs chased him, portraying alleged theft of Ram Temple donations.

Jain alleged that the protest hurt Hindu sentiments and insulted saints. He warned that legal action could follow.

Drawing a comparison with the Ramayana, Surendra Jain claimed the protesters attempted to misuse religious symbols for political purposes.

Akhil Bharatiya Sant Samiti National General Secretary Jitendranand Saraswati also criticised the demonstration. He called the use of saffron robes inside Parliament unacceptable and sought an unconditional apology from those involved.

Jitendranand Saraswati said authorities, including a Special Investigation Team and the Supreme Court, were already addressing the alleged donation issue.

Several other religious leaders, including Mahamandaleshwar Shashikant Das and Mahamandaleshwar Narayan Giri Ji Maharaj, also condemned the protest.
