Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated Gulveer Singh and Harjinder Kaur after the Indian athletes won silver medals at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, applauding their achievements and contribution to India’s medal campaign.
In separate posts on X, Shah praised Gulveer Singh for creating history by becoming the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the men’s 10,000m event. He said the landmark achievement would inspire young athletes across the country to bring more laurels to India and wished him success in his future competitions.

Competing in rain-soaked conditions, Gulveer remained with the leading pack throughout the race before producing a strong final-lap surge to finish in 27:49.78, securing the silver medal behind Australia’s Ky Robinson.
The achievement adds to his growing list of accomplishments, which includes a bronze medal at the Asian Games and two gold medals at the Asian Athletics Championships.
The Home Minister also congratulated Harjinder Kaur for winning silver in the women’s 69kg weightlifting event, describing her success as a reflection of her hard work and dedication. He said India continued its impressive medal-winning tradition in weightlifting and wished her many more achievements in the future.

Harjinder won silver in the women’s 69kg event with a combined lift of 227kg (101kg snatch and 126kg clean and jerk).
Canada’s Charlotte Simoneau took gold with 240kg, while Australia’s Nya Phebe Hayman claimed bronze with 218kg.
Harjinder’s silver, along with Gulveer Singh’s historic medal in athletics, boosted India’s medal tally and continued the country’s strong Commonwealth Games campaign.
