Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to wildlife enthusiasts on the occasion of Global Tiger Day, highlighting India’s leadership in tiger conservation and reaffirming the country’s commitment to protecting the species through science-based conservation, sustainable development and community participation.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said India was proud to be home to nearly 70 per cent of the world’s wild tiger population. He said the country’s conservation success was rooted in its centuries-old tradition of living in harmony with nature and strengthened by the collective efforts of its people.
PM Modi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to science-driven conservation, community participation and sustainable development to further strengthen tiger protection. He also praised forest personnel, scientists and conservationists for their dedication to safeguarding the country’s tiger population and said India would continue empowering local communities while reducing human-wildlife conflict.

According to the government, India now has the world’s largest wild tiger population, accounting for nearly 70 per cent of all wild tigers globally.
Officials said the achievement reflected decades of policy support, scientific management and community participation, making India a global leader in tiger conservation.
Protecting tigers and their habitats also strengthens biodiversity, ecological security and the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Observed annually on July 29, Global Tiger Day promotes tiger conservation and habitat protection.
According to the All India Tiger Estimation 2022, India has 3,682 wild tigers, with the survey covering 20 states and more than 6.41 lakh kilometres on foot.
The latest findings reinforce India’s position as the global leader in tiger conservation and reflect the success of sustained conservation initiatives across the country’s tiger reserves and protected forests.
