Delhi will likely experience another day of scorching weather on Sunday, with the maximum temperature likely to reach 41°C under mostly sunny skies.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts maximum temperatures between 39°C and 41°C through Sunday before they gradually fall to 35°C–37°C by Wednesday. Minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 28°C and 30°C.
High humidity will make conditions feel significantly hotter than the actual temperature, creating more oppressive weather across the national capital.
The heat index, or ‘feels like’ temperature, could climb to around 48°C during peak afternoon hours, creating extremely uncomfortable conditions across the capital and raising the risk of heat-related illnesses.
The forecast follows another sweltering day on Saturday, when Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 41.3°C.
The heat index surged to 48.4°C, making outdoor conditions significantly harsher than the recorded temperature suggested.
Safdarjung, the city’s base weather station, registered a minimum temperature of 30.8°C, which was 2.9°C above normal and 2.1°C higher than the previous day.
The maximum temperature reached 41.3°C, which was 4.1°C above normal, while Palam and Lodhi Road also recorded above-normal temperatures.
The IMD recorded only trace rainfall in isolated parts of Delhi early on Saturday, with no significant rain during the rest of the day.
For Sunday, the IMD forecasts partly cloudy skies, a chance of a light thunderstorm in the afternoon or evening, and surface winds of 20–30 kmph, gusting up to 40 kmph.
The weather department has also issued a yellow alert for Tuesday and Wednesday, forecasting light rain and thunderstorms that could bring relief from the ongoing heat and humidity.
