Iran on Saturday ordered another closure of the Strait of Hormuz, claiming that the United States and Israel had failed to uphold obligations outlined in a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said the move was prompted by what it described as a clear violation of the agreement’s opening provision, along with continued ceasefire breaches in southern Lebanon.

The military command alleged that Washington did not fulfil commitments linked to the first article of the accord. It also accused Israel of continuing military operations despite the understanding reached under the agreement.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump formalised the MoU on June 18 through a coordinated digital signing process.

The leaders completed the procedure remotely without holding a physical ceremony.

The agreement called for an immediate and lasting end to military activity involving Iran, the United States, and their respective allies.

Before announcing the latest closure, Iranian authorities had unveiled a new regulatory framework for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Under the rules, shipping operators had to register in advance and obtain the necessary permits and insurance documentation before entering the waterway.

The Persian Gulf Strait Authority introduced the regulations as part of efforts to restore normal commercial activity after months of regional instability.

Earlier, the United States announced that it had ended restrictions affecting maritime traffic to and from Iranian ports.

US Central Command stated that American forces were no longer interfering with commercial vessel movements in the area.

At the same time, Washington confirmed that its naval assets would remain nearby to oversee implementation of the agreement and monitor compliance by all parties involved.
