President Trump said he expects the US and Iran to reach a final agreement within 60 days despite delays in scheduled negotiations.

President Trump Backs ‘Final Offer’ To Iran After Nuclear Talks Collapse

US President Donald Trump has expressed confidence that Iran will agree to a final deal within 60 days of signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU), signalling optimism about the future of negotiations between the two countries.

Speaking at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Trump said he expected both sides to reach a comprehensive agreement within the agreed timeframe. He warned that failure to secure a deal could lead to consequences that Iran would not welcome, but added that he did not expect negotiations to reach that stage.

The MoU gives the US and Iran up to 60 days to negotiate and finalise a broader agreement, with an option to extend the deadline by mutual consent.

Both sides postponed scheduled talks in Switzerland, slowing progress on the next phase of negotiations.

While neither country explained the delay, reports suggested Iran pulled out following recent Israeli strikes in Lebanon.

Despite the setback, Washington and Tehran have continued preparations for future talks focused on implementation, verification and compliance.

The White House postponed Vice President JD Vance’s planned visit for technical talks but said discussions could resume soon.

Trump also said he had urged Israeli leaders to support a ceasefire with Hezbollah, calling it a positive step for regional stability.

The US will host fresh Israel-Lebanon talks in Washington next week.

Switzerland, which was expected to host the postponed negotiations, reiterated its readiness to facilitate future talks.

Officials confirmed that preparatory work remains in place, underscoring international support for continued dialogue as both sides work towards a potential final agreement.
