Residents across Delhi-NCR began the week on a refreshing note as light rain showers lashed several parts of the region on Monday morning, including areas around the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The rainfall brought much-needed relief from the humid conditions that had persisted over the past few days and created a pleasant start to the day.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast further weather activity across the region, with light rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds expected during the afternoon and evening.

Strong surface winds are likely to accompany the showers, helping to moderate temperatures and improve overall weather conditions.

According to the IMD, isolated areas may experience thunderstorms with wind speeds reaching 40 to 50 kmph.

Similar conditions are expected to continue through the evening, providing intermittent relief from the summer heat.

The IMD has forecast a maximum temperature of around 39 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26 degrees Celsius for Monday, with humidity hovering near 65 per cent.

On Sunday, temperatures remained close to seasonal levels across the capital, with the highest reading of 39.1 degrees Celsius recorded at Ridge.

Recent rainfall helped keep temperatures in check and improved comfort levels.

The weather department expects partly cloudy skies, isolated thunderstorms and light rain from Tuesday.

Although temperatures may touch 40 degrees Celsius, cloud cover is likely to prevent any significant rise in heat across Delhi-NCR.
