The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of changing weather conditions in Delhi and issued a yellow alert for Saturday, citing the possibility of thunderstorms, squally winds, and scattered rainfall.
Meteorologists expect cloud cover to remain over the city for most of the day, while thunderstorm activity may develop during the latter half of the afternoon and continue into the evening.
The weather office has projected wind speeds of up to 50 kmph in some areas and indicated that a few localities could receive brief spells of rain.
The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious while travelling and participating in outdoor activities.
The approaching weather system is likely to keep temperatures in check and bring relief from the recent spell of intense heat.
Forecasters estimate that the minimum temperature will hover near 23 degrees Celsius, while the maximum is likely to remain close to 37 degrees Celsius.
The alert follows a significant improvement in weather conditions observed on Friday morning after rain fell across parts of the city overnight.
Data recorded at Delhi’s Safdarjung weather station showed the minimum temperature settling at 22.8 degrees Celsius, considerably below normal levels for this time of year.
The reading was also markedly lower than the temperature registered a day earlier, reflecting the influence of the changing weather system.
Experts attribute the cooler conditions and increased cloud formation to a fresh western disturbance moving across north-western India.
The system has introduced additional moisture into the atmosphere, creating favourable conditions for thunderstorms and occasional showers across Delhi-NCR.
Weather officials explained that such disturbances commonly affect pre-monsoon conditions by generating dust storms, rainfall, and lower daytime temperatures.
Residents Advised to Monitor Updates
Following several days of extreme heat, the latest development is expected to bring more comfortable weather in the short term.
The IMD has advised residents to keep track of regular weather updates as forecasts may change depending on evolving atmospheric conditions.
