Service To People Is The Real Test Of Good Governance: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that service to the people remains the ultimate test of good governance, emphasising that leaders earn public trust through humility, dedication and a strong sense of duty. His remarks came as he became India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister, completing 4,399 days in office and surpassing the record held by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.

In a message shared on social media, PM Modi said continuous public service and commitment to national development form the foundation of effective governance. He added that only those who work tirelessly for the welfare of citizens can earn and retain the confidence of the people.

The milestone marks another landmark in PM Modi’s political journey since he first assumed office in May 2014.

The Prime Minister subsequently secured decisive mandates in 2019 and 2024, becoming the first Prime Minister since Nehru to win three consecutive terms and the longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister in India’s history.

Over the past 12 years, the Modi government has launched several major infrastructure and nation-building initiatives that have reshaped the country’s development landscape.

These include the new Parliament building, the Central Vista redevelopment, Kartavya Path, Vande Bharat trains, the Statue of Unity, INS Vikrant, the Kashmir rail link, Noida International Airport, the Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System and the Ganga Expressway.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) marked the occasion with a key meeting at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

Senior BJP leaders, Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers and NDA allies attended the meeting, which also marked 12 years of NDA governance at the Centre.

Sources said the coalition may adopt a resolution congratulating PM Modi on the historic milestone and his leadership over the past decade.
