Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emergence as India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister drew praise from former President Ram Nath Kovind and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday, with both leaders describing his tenure as a transformative period in India’s post-Independence journey.
PM Modi achieved the milestone after completing 4,399 days in office, surpassing the record held by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
In an article, former President Ram Nath Kovind described PM Modi’s tenure as a watershed period in post-Independence India.
Kovind said the milestone represented more than a record in longevity and reflected broader changes in India’s political, economic and cultural landscape. He credited PM Modi with strengthening India’s civilisational identity, promoting inclusive growth and instilling greater confidence among citizens.
According to Kovind, PM Modi has also promoted India’s democratic traditions globally while encouraging greater pride in the country’s languages, culture and heritage.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated PM Modi on the achievement.
Shah described the past 12 years as a period of cultural resurgence, national self-confidence and decisive governance. He highlighted several initiatives and milestones, including the new Parliament building, the National Education Policy, the abrogation of Article 370, the Ram Temple and efforts aimed at strengthening national security and self-reliance.

Both Kovind and Shah said PM Modi’s leadership had laid a strong foundation for the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047. They expressed confidence that his vision would continue to guide India’s development journey and strengthen the country’s position on the global stage.
