PIB Debunks Deepfake Video Falsely Linking Nirmala Sitharaman To Investment Scheme

The PIB Fact Check unit exposed an AI-generated deepfake video. The video falsely showed Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman endorsing the ‘Quantum AI’ investment platform.

Authorities clarified that neither the Minister nor the Government of India is associated with the scheme.

The manipulated video circulated through Facebook advertisements and falsely promised extraordinary financial returns. It claimed investors could earn up to Rs 60,000 per day and nearly Rs 16 lakh per month through a minimum investment of Rs 22,000.

Officials warned that such claims are deceptive and intended to lure unsuspecting individuals.

The fabricated content also attempted to create urgency by suggesting that registration opportunities were available only for a limited period. It misleadingly linked the programme to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and presented the scheme as a government-supported initiative operating under Reserve Bank of India oversight.

PIB Fact Check categorically rejected these assertions and confirmed that no such endorsement exists.

Fraudsters increasingly use AI-generated deepfakes of public figures to mislead investors.

The altered footage falsely attributed promotional statements to the Finance Minister.

Investigators found that digital manipulation made the video appear authentic.

Authorities said the advertisement contained fabricated claims and had no official backing.

Officials urged citizens to exercise caution while evaluating investment opportunities promoted on social media platforms. They advised people to verify information through official government channels before committing funds to any financial scheme.

The case, however, highlights the growing threat posed by deepfake technology and online investment fraud.

Authorities continue to caution the public against schemes that promise unrealistic returns and rely on the unauthorised use of prominent personalities to gain trust.

In a social media statement, PIB Fact Check reiterated that the viral video is fake and urged users not to fall victim to fraudulent investment advertisements circulating online.
