Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held bilateral talks with Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, reaffirming the commitment of both countries to deepen cooperation across a range of strategic and economic sectors.
The discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in trade, investment, technology, connectivity and people-to-people exchanges.
The meeting reflected the importance both nations place on their longstanding relationship and shared vision for regional peace, stability and prosperity.
President Hlaing is on a five-day visit to India, his first since assuming office. His visit underscores the close civilisational, cultural and historical ties between India and Myanmar, while also providing an opportunity to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Ahead of the meeting with Prime Minister Modi, the Myanmar President held discussions with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on security cooperation and regional developments.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh welcomed the visit, expressing confidence in stronger India-Myanmar ties.
President Hlaing will also meet President Droupadi Murmu, visit a Buddha relics exhibition, participate in a business forum and travel to Mumbai for industry interactions.
Accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising Cabinet Ministers, senior officials and business leaders, President Hlaing is also expected to participate in a business forum.
On June 2, the Myanmar President will travel to Mumbai for meetings with industry representatives and business stakeholders, aimed at exploring new avenues of economic partnership and investment cooperation between India and Myanmar.
