In a historic and glittering tribute to a milestone of liberty, the US Embassy in New Delhi hosted a mega reception and dinner to celebrate ‘America250′, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States’ independence.
Held sequentially and in spectacular fashion on the evening of Sunday, May 24, 2026, the high-profile gala unfolded at the prestigious West Plaza, Multifunction Hall (Level 3, Gate 7) of Bharat Mandapam, the iconic venue in the heart of India’s capital.
The exclusive, non-transferable event brought together an elite gathering of the who’s who from all walks of life, including senior government officials, top political figures, foreign diplomats, corporate CEOs, and prominent media heads.
Among the selective invitees was Dr Khalid Raza Khan, the Editor of Bharat Express Urdu, who joined leading editors and journalists from top news channels and newspapers to witness an evening that flawlessly blended high diplomacy with unparalleled cultural celebration.
Following a strict dress code of formal business attire and high security, guests arrived presenting their digital and hard-copy invites, complete with unique QR codes.

The guest of honour for the evening was US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, currently on a pivotal four-day strategic visit to India. He was joined on stage by India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr S Jaishankar.
The atmosphere inside the grand hall reflected the deep mutual respect and the robust trajectory of contemporary Indo-US relations.
A major highlight of the evening occurred when US President Donald Trump connected Live to the Bharat Mandapam hall virtually from Washington, DC.
President Trump Joins Virtually
Addressing the distinguished audience, President Trump expressed his deep admiration for Indian culture and lauded his close bilateral relationship with New Delhi.
”I love India. I am a big, big fan of Prime Minister Modi,” President Trump stated during the live interaction, calling the Indian leader a true friend. He added that the US-India bond has never been stronger, reassuring the gathering that ‘India can count on me 100%’.
Secretary Rubio, who arrived in New Delhi earlier in the day after a poignant visit to Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata, called the bilateral relationship one of the most important strategic partnerships in the world, and emphasised that the United States and India are not just allies, but strategic allies.
Speaking to a room filled with business titans, policy experts and media owners, Rubio stressed that the scope of cooperation extends well beyond the Indo‑Pacific, adding, “We work with countries all over the region on a variety of issues, but our partnership with India offers opportunities to cooperate globally, even in the Western Hemisphere”.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, in turn, underlined that the India‑US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership has become ‘the most consequential bilateral relationship of the 21st century’ and that ‘converging interests on many issues allow us to shape a rules‑based world order together’.
Both leaders discussed ongoing defence technology co‑production projects, including the landmark 10‑year defence framework agreement signed in 2025, and touched upon regional stability in West Asia and the Indo‑Pacific.
As the formal diplomatic proceedings concluded, the evening transitioned into an electric, high-energy cultural fiesta.
AR Rahman Takes Centre Stage
Oscar-winning music maestro and celebrity singer AR Rahman took the stage, transforming the massive hall into a vibrant arena of musical synergy.
Rahman performed a breathtaking concert, delivering almost ten of his greatest, most iconic hits back-to-back.
The absolute crescendo of the night was a stirring rendition of his global anthem ‘Jai Ho’, which served as a musical bridge symbolising the strong cultural fusion between India and the United States.
The crowd, consisting of various prominent media personalities, including Dr Khalid Raza Khan from Bharat Express, top corporate leaders, and diplomats, cheered enthusiastically as Rahman spun a web of melodies with tracks like ‘Dil Se’, ‘Muqabla’, and ‘Fanaa’.

Ambassador Gor, who hosted the reception along with his team, officially kicked off the ‘Freedom250’ campaign from the capital in April with a fleet of Trump‑themed auto‑rickshaws navigating Delhi’s streets.
Lavish Dinner Reception
On Sunday, the US Ambassador personally greeted guests as they entered the West Plaza of Bharat Mandapam, which was festooned with a giant banner reading ‘Happy Birthday America! 250 Years Old’.
The formal programme began at 7:00 PM, with Rubio, Jaishankar and Gor addressing the assembly before dinner was served.
The mega event culminated in a lavish, curated dinner where diplomats, journalists, and policy makers mingled freely, exchanging perspectives on the future of global politics and celebrating American heritage.
