Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni warmly welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Italy as he arrived in Rome on Tuesday night during the final leg of his five-nation diplomatic tour.
Highlighting the close ties between the two leaders, Meloni shared a personal message on X, posting, “Welcome to Rome, my friend!”

PM Modi arrived in Italy for an official visit to strengthen the India-Italy strategic partnership and expand cooperation across key sectors.
During the visit, the Prime Minister will hold talks with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and meet Italian President Sergio Mattarella.
PM Modi and PM Meloni will meet at Villa Doria Pamphili in Rome, where both countries are expected to adopt a joint declaration to deepen strategic and economic ties.
Sharing details of the visit, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the visit would script a new chapter in the India-Italy Strategic Partnership. He also noted that Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, warmly received PM Modi at the airport.

The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit comes as India and Italy continue strengthening ties under the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029.
The roadmap covers cooperation in trade, investment, defence, clean energy, technology and people-to-people ties.
Bilateral trade reached 16.77 billion US dollars in 2025, while Italian investment in India stood at 3.66 billion US dollars.
The MEA said the visit would further boost India’s engagement with Europe following the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement negotiations.
PM Modi last visited Italy in June 2024 for the G7 Summit.
